Commissioned by Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden, my project partner and me designed a project to celebrate 900 years of water management.
For this project, there was a need for a fun and engaging way to raise awareness among youth people about the role of the water authority. But how do you effectively convey what a water authority does? And how do you make younger one's more conscious of their own water usage? Our solution: a Dixi (mobile toilet). But not just any Dixi—one that's quite different from the ones you see at festivals or on a construction site.
Imagine walking down a red carpet towards the 4D-IXI. You open the door, take a seat on the toilet seat and suddenly find yourself inside a sewer pipe. As soon as the door closes, the journey of wastewater begins. Along the way, you encounter tampons, pass through a coarse waste filter and eventually end up in the beautiful canals of Utrecht.
After the experience you'll receive a creative guide for in your bathroom.. ;)
The 4D-IXI was exhibited at the Dutch Design Week in 2022, in the Veem Building, Eindhoven.

Wow, what a week! Over 2,500 visitors—young, old, and even two dogs—stepped into our 4D-ixi at Dutch Design Week 2022. Some came just to experience the 4D toilet, others to grab a collector’s item toilet roll.
The reactions were incredible:
“A spectacular experience!”m
“Turning a dry topic into something this hilarious—wow!”
“One of the best designs at DDW!”
